Physical charateristics

Lesser Elaenia is easily confused since it has no obvious fieldmark. It is slightly crested and sometimes shows a white crown. It has a narrow white eye-ring and 2 whitish wing-bars.

Range

It is found in Argentina, Aruba, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Netherlands Antilles, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela.

Habitat

Its natural habitats are dry savanna, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland, and heavily degraded former forest

Reproduction

Nest is a small cup lined with feathers, built 1-4 meter up in bush or tree. Clutch size is 2 eggs, incubated by female for about 14 days, but fed by both parents. Young fledge after about 16 days. Sometimes 2 broods.

Feeding habits

Forages at eyelevel, mostly in open land but in foliage for insects and small berries. Perch gleans for insects.

Conservation

This species has a large range, with an estimated global extent of occurrence of 7,200,000 km
